Interview with María Cristina de Blanco - MD Endocrinologist
Besides being very close to my family her works inspire me, that magical effect of color surrounds me with peace and tranquility.
2. What do you look for in a work of art?
Feelings being represented, nature seen under the artist own interpretation, not just reality; in other words being able to appreciate the creativity in terms of what the artist sees and thinks.
3. How has Venezuelan art developed?
Venezuelan art has come a long way, Jesus Soto, one of the first ones who opened the door to this movement, was a very poor man who went to Paris to study art on his own, supporting himself by playing guitar on the streets. He started the kinetic art, his creativity has been essential to reach the level we are in today.
We also have landscaping painters like Benavides, also called "The Avila Painter"; Cruz Diez and Jesus Soto are well known nationally and internationally and Reveron beginning to be noticed.
I am a truly Picasso admirer, he transformed the art of painting going from figurative to abstract and impressionism.
4. Who makes the artist?
I believe the artist must have an instinct in the way he feels and perceives things in either music or sculpture; there are occasions where art is learned, but in most cases they are born artists. I can mention Mozart as a good example, he was a composer at the age of 5.
5. What do you think about people who invest in art?
There are two types of people who invest in art; the first ones because they enjoyed it and the second ones for the value they may have in the future.
6. Why do you buy art?
Art fills my spirit. I love art in all forms, opera is another of my great passions. Art is expresed in many ways, like sculpture, painting and literature.
I consider myself an art lover, I enjoy the combination of music and theater, set designing is almost like painting, the set designer is the painter that imagine and builts.
7. Who do you admire the most ?
I admire Dudamel, his musical memory is incredible he is a genius, he is the Director of the Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuela and that makes me very proud. I like Cruz Diez and Jesus Soto, but what I like the most is the kinetic art and the writings of Mr. Soto.
